Welcome to the LinksBoks Wiki!
This site is designed to provide information about
LinksBoks, the Xbox WWW browser.
LinksBoks is a port to the Xbox platform of the
Links2Browser, an enhanced version of the
LinksBrowser. The selected version is actually
LinksHacked, a modified version of Links2 with additional
Features.
LinksBoks, as well as Links, is
OpenSource software, released under the GPL license.
Latest news
Hey! Is anyone still out there?
Ok, that's almost 10 months of idle time... but guess what, I got a coding spree the last few days so here's the version I promised a few lines below (ok, forget about the "won't take too long" part, after all, late is better than nothing, they say ;).
That's right:
Version 0.99 "Marmitopter" is out (at last)!
As you can see in the
VERSION.txt, most of the work was to clean up code and turn the browser itself into a library (and that justifies the version number jump). Some more work is needed, but this library can (I think) be integrated quite easily into "host" applications --like the actual
LinksBoks application does from now on. If you're interested, I'll be happy to learn from you.
As always, you can download the source here:
linksboks-0.99_src.rar (
it's a 10MB download!). To get a compiled binary you'll have to look elsewhere... and you might also try the "Embedded Sample" resembling the screenshot posted a few months ago (it even plays your Xbox soundtracks :).
It's been quite a long time, but I've reordered this wiki (now the news are on the front page, that's way better).
I also want to announce that due to the number of requests for Flash support in
LinksBoks, I've been busy experimenting the
GPLFlash SWF (Macromedia Flash) decoding library since yesterday and it's already sort-of ported and running on my Xbox. I'm releasing what I have currently: a library that compiles and a (very) basic SWF player.
Grab it (sources only) here:
swfx-0.1_src.rar or read the
README.txt file.
Integration into
LinksBoks will be done in due time (this is no easy task). Meanwhile, I hope it will give some cool ideas to the dashboards/media players authors out there.
Concerning
LinksBoks, I'm currently working on a major code rewrite on the Xbox part, which will lead to the possibility of integrating it into applications (I'm thinking about XBMC or dashboards). Will be out "when it's done" (but it won't take too long, I promise :).
Ah, almost forgot: here's some eyecandy of what I'm talking about :)
Ok, I installed this Wiki yesterday and I put up some pages on it, the new release (Dr. Zoidberg Edition :p) sources are already available for download.
I think I could have released that at least a month ago, but releasing involves work, and I'm a lazy ass :)
Besides, that internship is eating up all my time...
Planned for next release is some code reorganization (on the parts I did myself), it's all pretty messy right now. I might build a C++ class with everything in it. You may have noticed that I made tests to build
LinksBoks as a library to embed it in other applications (got mail from someone who convinced me to experiment on this); stay tuned, I'll my work further on this too from now on.
I'm also planning to get those translations completed. For this there's some boring work required before, then I might need translators! :)
Well, that's all for now...
About this site
This site is a "Wiki" (see
WikiWikiWeb), pages can be created or edited really easily. And
you can do that in the
FreeSpeechArea, without logging in! Check out
Wikipedia for an example of a famous (and successful) wiki.
Due to
repeated abuses, involving off-topic content and even racism, free editing is restricted to the
FreeSpeechArea. Vandalism is lame, and vandals are not welcome on this wiki and are
banned at once. Anyways, if you encounter a page in the
FreeSpeechArea with questionable content, you can undo it in 2 clicks (see the notice on the bottom of each page). I'd appreciate it.
Happy browsing!
